Hoje, fui ao encontro do Chef Rui Paula, Chef galardoado com duas estrelas Michelin pelo seu restaurante Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, em Leça da Palmeira.
E é exatamente por Leça da Palmeira, concelho de Matosinhos, que o Chef costuma fazer muitas das suas compras diárias, como por exemplo jornais diários e revistas de especialidade.

“Good Neighbours in Matosinhos” is the Serie where I highlight the importance of maintaining alive the traditional and small businesses of the community we live, which means maintaining alive the businesses of our neighbours. Specially now, during this strange and complicated days we are living due to the Covid_19 pandemia.
Today, I went to meet Chef Rui Paula, a week known Chef and awarded with 2 stars Michelin at his Restaurant Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, in Leça da Palmeira.
It’s precisely in Leça da Palmeira, neighbourhood belonging to the municipality of Matosinhos, where the Chef does most of his daily shopping, like for instance, newspapersand specialised magazines.

A viver em Leça da Palmeira há cerca de 5 anos, o Chef Rui Paula praticamente dispensa apresentações: é um dos Chefs mais prestigiados do país, e detentor de duas estrelas Michelin pelo seu trabalho à frente de um dos seus restaurantes – Casa de Chá da Boa Nova – restaurante que se insere em privilegiada localização, em cima do mar, e em obra icônica de relevo arquitetónico do não menos famoso Arquiteto Siza Vieira.

Para além da Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, o Chef Rui Paula está também à frente de outro conceituado restaurante no centro do Porto, o Restaurante DOP, e do restaurante DOC, este último na região do Douro.

Aqui hoje, no entanto, vamo-nos ficar por Leça da Palmeira, desvendando um pouco a faceta de bom Vizinho que um bom Chef também pode ter…., acompanhando o Chef Rui Paula numa das suas várias idas à Tabacaria Jogatina, Tabacaria localizada nos empreendimentos do Paço da Boa Nova.

Living in Leça da Palmeira for 5 years now, Chef Rui Paula doesn’t need presentations: he is one of the most prestigious Chefs in Portugal, and awarded two stars Michelin for his work at one of his restaurants – Casa de Chá da Boa Nova.
The restaurant Casa de Chá da Boa Nova is located in a privileged location, almost above the sea, and in a building by the non less famous portuguese architect, Siza Vieira.

Besides Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, Chef Rui Paula owns another well known restaurant in the centre of Porto, the DOP restaurant, and one other in the Douro region, DOC restaurant.

Há quantos anos frequenta a Tabacaria Jogatina?

– Há cinco anos, desde que vim viver para Leça da Palmeira.
É uma Tabacaria que tem tudo, e onde se encontram as melhores publicações, quer de jornais, revistas, ou livros. E caso não tenham o que nós queremos, mandam vir!
Um espaço sempre ao serviço dos clientes, e gerido com muita simpatia pelo casal Dina e Luís.

É importante sermos Bons Vizinhos?

– Claro que sim, temos de nos ajudar uns aos outros, especialmente agora, nesta fase.

Em relação aos seus restaurantes, como está a ser o regresso, com a re-abertura de portas após a quarentena obrigatória por causa da Covid_19?

– Muito complicado!
Aqui em Leça, na Casa de Chá da Boa Nova até está a correr bem, já no DOP, no centro do Porto, a situação não está famosa.
Ali na Baixa tudo está mais voltado para o turismo, e neste momento não há turistas no Porto, ….
Precisamos de turistas!

Mas somos fortes, e vamo-nos manter fortes, para ultrapassar esta crise!

Since when do you come to this shop, the Jogatina Magazine Store ?

– Since I came to live in Leça da Palmeira, 5 years ago.
It is a Magazine Store where you will find everything, with the best publications, from daily newspapers, to books and specialised magazines. And in case they do not have it, they will order it for you!
Always the best client service, and it is owned by the nice couple Dina & Luís.

Is it important to be a Good Neighbour?

– Of course it is, We have to help each other, specially now!

Regarding your restaurants and the re-opoening after quarantine, due to Covid_19, how are you living it?

– Really complicated times!

Here in Leça, at Casa de Chá, well, it is not bad, people are coming again to the restaurant.
But in the other restaurant, DOP, in the center of Porto, situation is not good.
There in the city centre everything is more focused on the tourism, and these days there are no tourists downtown! We need tourists!

But we are strong, we cannot give up, and we will survive these hard times!
