Onde em tempos idos (o edifício remonta a 1923) já existiu a Pensão Monumental, no Porto, nasceu agora um Hotel luxuoso com o conceito de luxo familiar (casually luxurious) – O Monumental Palace Hotel.
Com vistas privilegiadas para a Avenida dos Aliados, e mantendo as influências art nouveau e art deco, o Hotel alberga também um café à face da Rua, o Café Monumental, que não passa despercebido a quem por lá passa, num convite irrecusável a entrar.
Eu claro, que tenho uma curiosidade aguçada por tudo o que é novidade e bonito, já lá estive.

Where long time ago (the building exists since 1923) used to be the Pensão Monumental, in Porto, is now born a luxurious hotel with a casually luxurious concept – the Monumental Palace Hotel.
With privileged views to the Avenida dos Aliados, and keeping the art nouveau and art deco influences, the Hotel also owns a Cafe facing the street – the Monumental Cafe – which catches everyone’s eye, and is an invitation to go inside.
As I am always curious for everything that is new and beautiful, I already visited it.

O Monumental Palace Hotel pertence agora ao grupo francês Maison AlBar, e abriu as suas portas no final de Novembro último, depois de vários anos de remodelação e de ter inclusivamente mudado de dono (primeiramente esteve nas mãos do empresário português Mário Ferreira).

Casually Luxurious
É um Hotel de 5 estrelas, luxuoso pois claro, mas aconchegante, onde se pretende um luxo casual, em que qualquer pessoa que lá entre se sinta muito bem.
“Casually Luxurious” é o lema.
Um hotel imponente mas atrativo e que faz jus à história e ao ambiente que se vivia na época em que, enquanto Pensão Monumental, por volta dos anos 30, os portuenses frequentavam elegantes festas com música e orquestra.

Tem um total de 63 quartos e 13 suites, e vistas majestosas para a Avenida dos Aliados.
Na decoração dão nas vistas o chão de mármore, as alcatifas com padrões e todo um lettering que foi mantido.

Tem ainda um Spa com piscina interior aquecida, sauna, banho turco e tratamentos da gama exclusiva Nuxe.
E um restaurante de alta gastronomia – o Le Monument – regido pelo Chef Julien Montbabut, detentor de 1 estrela Michelin; o Bar Americain, onde pode provar cocktails de autor, uma biblioteca, e o Café Monumental, onde o menu pretende recriar o estilo de uma brasserie.

Monumental Palace Hotel is now belonging to the french group Maison Albar, and has opened its doors last November, after several years of reconstruction and even changing owner ( first the building belonged to the portuguese business man Mário Ferreira.)

Casually Luxurious
It is a 5 star hotel, so a luxury hotel, but cosy, with the aim to make everyone feel very well.
“Casually Luxurious” is the guiding mote.
It is majestic, but very attractive, and it wants to recall the history and ambience that was lived there by the time it was Pensão Monumental (around the years 30) where the inhabitants from Porto went there to attend beautiful parties with music and orchestra.

It has 63 rooms and 13 suites, and majestic views facing Avenida dos Aliados.
The decoration is highlighted by the marble floor, the patterns of the carpets, and all the letterings that were maintained.

It also has a Spa with interior pool, sauna and turkish bath, and treatments with exclusive brand Nuxe.
Beyond that, it has a high end restaurant – Le Monument – orchestrated by french Chef Julien Montbatut, awarded one star Michelin, it has Le Bar Americain, where you can try signature cocktails, a library and the Monumental Cafe, where the menu intends to resemble a brasserie.

A Mascote do Hotel, a Ovelha Al
Há uma ovelhinha mascote do Hotel, a Al, ideia retirada das memórias de infância de um membro da Família Albar, que cresceu em local onde existiam muitas ovelhas.

The Hotel Mascot, Al, the Sheep
There is a mascot in the hotel, a sheep called Al, in memory of the childhood of a member of the family Albar, who grew in a location where many sheep lived as well.

O Café Monumental

Confesso que foi por passar em frente ao Café Monumental, num dos dias de azáfama natalícia e em que me dirigia para a estação de metro da Trindade indo a pé pela Avenida dos Aliados, que me despertou a curiosidade em conhecer o Hotel.

Espreitei para dentro do café e decidi entrar, facilmente me transportando para uma imaginária Paris elegante e chic.
Bebi um café enquanto absorvia a noite a cair e observava as passadas alheias através da janela, sorri à minha cidade que sempre me surpreende.
Dias mais tarde, voltei então para conhecer o Hotel.

I confess it was because I was passing in front of Café Monumental, back in December during Christmas days and I was walking towards Trindade Metro Station, that I got the curiosity to visit the Hotel.

I had a sneak peak inside the cafe and decided to go in, easily being transported to an imaginary Paris, elegant and chic.
Had a coffee while absorbing night falling outside, as well as people passing by in front, and I smiled to my city which always surprises me.
Some days later, I decided to come back to visit the Hotel.

No Porto, com luxo e glamour

A cidade pode e deve ser vivida em todo o seu esplendor, e de vez em quando, com algum luxo, por que não?
