A Quinta de La Rosa tem cerca de 55 hectares, e pertence à família Bergqvist, sendo Sophia Bergqvist (neta da primeira proprietária da Quinta) quem atualmente gere e promove pelos quatro cantos do mundo os vinhos da Quinta.
A Quinta já está na família desde 1906, e foi das primeiras quintas produtoras de vinho do Porto a comercializar os seus vinhos tintos.

Depois de algumas remodelações recentes, a Quinta está preparada para albergar hóspedes, receber visitas de enoturismo, provas de vinho, e almoços e jantares – desde Maio último inclusivamente com um restaurante próprio – a Cozinha da Clara, aberto também a não hóspedes.

at Quinta de La Rosa

Quinta de La Rosa has around 55 hectares and belongs to Bergqvist family. Sophia Bergqvist (grandchild of first owner of the Quinta) is who nowadays runs the business and promotes Quinta de La Rosa wines around the world.
The Quinta is in the family since 1906, and they were the first Douro producers to commercialise their red wines.

After some recent improvements, the Quinta is well prepared to receive people to stay there, to receive wine tourism visits, wine tastings, lunch and dinner – since last May inclusively they opened its own restaurant – Cozinha da Clara – that can be visited by anyone.

Eu estive lá em Abril último, com uns dias lindos de sol, e pude comprovar a excelência do local e a excelência de quem nos recebe.
Apesar de não ter sido recebida por Sophia Bergqvist, ausente em viagem de negócios, nem por isso o serviço deixou de ser menos acolhedor.

Fiquei instalada numa nova zona de quartos – antes quem pernoitasse na Quinta de La Rosa ficava a dormir nos quartos da própria casa de família – mas o pequeno-almoço e o jantar esses sim foram servidos na casa principal.
A experiência que se pretende para quem fica instalado na Quinta de La Rosa é que proporcione o mais possível a sensação de se estar numa casa particular e nunca num hotel.

I was there last April, with incredible sunny days, and could prove the excellency of the place land of the service.
Despite not being received by Sophia, who was in a business travel, everything was cosy and of great welcome.

I stayed at a new and recent room area – before that people would stay at their own family house – but I had breakfast and dinner at the family house dining room. The experience they want to share is that the one of someone staying at a private home and not at all in a hotel.

Visitar as caves da Quinta de La Rosa é de visita obrigatória para quem lá está, até porque existem pipas com mais de cem anos que contam toda uma história, e com pormenores lindos que não devem escapar: as pipas grandes têm detalhes trabalhados à mão, os barris mais pequenos são pintados à mão, e sempre que nasce um novo membro da família, é-lhe oferecido um barril.

Na altura das vindimas, é possível assistir ou participar na pisa dentro dos lagares de granito, o que é uma experiência sem dúvida memorável. Até porque no final os trabalhadores cantam e dançam dentro dos lagares.

For those who visit or stay at Quinta de La Rosa to visit the wine cellars is a must, as there are wine barrels more than 100 years old and full of history, and full of beautiful details: the bigger wine barrels have nice details that were handmade, and the smaller ones were hand painted. Also, for each new born family member, a small wine barrel is offered to that child.

By harvest time, one can assist or participate at the works inside the mill, and it is with no doubt a memorable experience. At the end of work all wine workers sing and dance inside the mill….

Percorrer os socalcos das vinhas, ir até à Casa Amarela – outra das propriedades da Quinta de La Rosa, ou ir até à Casa de Lamelas – esta já perto de Sabrosa (tem de ir de carro), mais no alto mas com umas vistas deslumbrantes – e dar um mergulho na piscina são tudo experiências que marcam e que nos fazem querer voltar….
E eu vou ter de voltar porque apesar de ter tido bastante sol, não ia preparada para os bons mergulhos na piscina….

Going through the wine terraces, or going to casa Amarela – another property of Quinta de La Rosa , or even going to Casa de Lamelas – this one a little bit far away, close to Sabrosa, but with amazing views!!, and dive in the pool are quite excellent experiences that make us wanna go back…
And I will have to go back, as I did not try the pool, despite the sun…

Outra das razões pelas quais terei de voltar é para conhecer o restaurante sobre o qual já falei atrás – o Cozinha da Clara – que estava muito próximo da sua abertura quando por lá estive.
Vivia-se por isso ambiente de alguma animada excitação e nervosismo, conforme as palavras de Cristina, a maravilhosa cozinheira da Quinta de La Rosa:

“O Cozinha da Clara vai ser um restaurante excelente, tenho a certeza! Vem para cá um Chef com quem já temos trabalhado, e eu vou ajudar”

There is another reason for me to go back there, and it is to try the new restaurant I talked about before – Cozinha da Clara – as it was almost to open during my stay.
By then we could feel some adrenaline and excitement about it, as I heard from Cristina, the wonderful cook at Quinta de La Rosa:

“Cozinha da Clara will be an excellent restaurant, I am sure! A Chef will come to join us, and we have been working with him before, so everything will be fine. And will be here to help him.”

O Douro faz parte do nosso magnífico Portugal, e é de uma beleza ímpar capaz de deixar qualquer pessoa deslumbrada (portugueses e não portugueses!)
